Osteoporosis and the resulting vertebral and hip fractures are not an inevitable part of aging. We check each woman for risk factors, and educate you about optimal dosages of calcium and vitamin D. If a woman appears to be at high risk of developing osteoporosis, a bone density test will be ordered. If osteoporosis is found, we will provide you with medication that will further decrease your risk of future fracture. There are multiple types of medication that can be used to treat osteoporosis. All options will be discussed with you in deciding which medication, if any, is appropriate. If you have osteoporosis, we will follow you with bone density testing every 2 to 3 years, to be sure it does not worsen.
