Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is often suggested as a way to diagnose and treat various gynecologic conditions including endometriosis, pelvic adhesions, pelvic pain and infertility. An incision is made at the umbilicus, and another small incision is made abdominally at the top of the pubic bone. The abdomen is insufflated with CO2 gas, and then the pelvis is examined using a slender scope.

This minimally invasive technology can also be used to perform a tubal ligation or to remove an ovarian cyst. A diseased tube and ovary can also be removed this way under certain conditions. This is an outpatient procedure, and most patients go home the same day.
